A partial denture is for a jaw that still has some of its own teeth. Those teeth carry and retain the denture, so their condition is assessed before anything else.

The denture is made from impressions and fitted across several visits. The remaining teeth are sometimes prepared first so they can take the load.
Getting used to a removable denture takes time, and usually involves one or two further visits for adjustments after it is fitted.
The plan is drawn up after an examination and an X-ray, and approved by a supervising teacher. Gum treatment, or the extraction of a tooth that cannot be saved, may be needed first.
Whether the case is accepted depends on the condition of the remaining teeth and on the requirements of the particular exercise.
