How does treatment with a dental student work?

Who is involved, and who is responsible for what

There are four separate parties, and it helps to keep them apart, because they are often confused.

• The dental student carries out the treatment as part of their training. They are not a licensed dentist and work under supervision.
• The supervising teacher observes, checks and approves the stages of the work, and has the final say on whether a case is suitable.
• The faculty provides the clinic, the equipment and the rules the work follows. It sets the conditions and the prices.
• UniDent is the platform where you find the student. It is not a clinic, does not carry out treatment, and is not part of the faculty.

How it works in practice

1. 1You browse the profiles of students in your city and see which cases they are looking for.
2. 2You send a request to a specific student, describing your complaint and attaching an X-ray if you have one.
3. 3The student reviews the request and judges whether the case looks suitable for the exercise they need a patient for. They may accept it, propose another time, or decline.
4. 4If the request is accepted, you attend the faculty clinic at the agreed time.
5. 5An examination takes place. The supervising teacher assesses the case and approves the plan — or points to a different solution.
6. 6Treatment begins if the case is suitable. Longer procedures are scheduled across further visits.

Why it takes longer

A visit to a teaching clinic is usually longer than the same procedure in a private practice. That is a matter of process rather than quality: each step is checked by a teacher before the work continues, and the student works more slowly because they are learning.

This is why students generally look for patients who can spare time on a weekday and attend more than once if the case calls for it.

What is decided at the faculty, not here

Neither UniDent nor this page can tell you whether a particular treatment is right for you. That is decided after an examination, by the student and their supervising teacher, in line with the teaching programme.
